In May 2021, the Secretary of State for Transport committed to establishing Great British Railways, a single, accountable public body responsible for Britain’s railways.
This new, passenger-focused railway department would be outside of London. Newcastle is amongst five other destinations who have been shortlisted out of 42 towns and cities who submitted bids to become the new headquarters for Great British Railways.
The voting stage of the competition is open and gives you the opportunity to vote for your preferred location from the shortlist. The results will be used to measure the level of support for each place and will be considered as part of final decision making.
Newcastle now needs your support to help bring the HQ to the home of the railways.
