Nigel Wright Recruitment raises over £75,000 for Cancer Research UK

When Nigel Wright Recruitment first selected Cancer Research UK as its charity of choice in 2014, the aim was to raise £10,000 each year. Five years on, the business has raised over £75,000 for the UK’s largest charity.

This impressive accomplishment was achieved following fundraising efforts from staff across Nigel Wright’s 13 European offices.

Initiatives take place throughout the year, the largest being the annual Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. Since 2014, over 150 employees have completed the 24.5 miles, 2,153 metre climb in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Most finish the course within the intended 12 hours but there are usually a handful each year who struggle on within a painful 13 hours. In return for their fundraising sponsorship, Nigel Wright arranges and pays for everyone’s travel and lodgings for a weekend each June.

2018 was a record breaking year, with over £14,000 raised by Yorkshire Three Peaks participants. It was the fastest ever year too with 12 people achieving a time under eight hours. And Katherine Hackett, a Consultant in Nigel Wright’s North East Supply Chain team, ran the entire route, coming in at 5 hours and 42 seconds.

Other fundraising activities included a Christmas raffle that raised over £700, office baking days and an all-year tuck shop, kindly restocked and administered by Regional Director, Sue Ormerod.

Justin Barlow, Nigel Wright’s Marketing Director, commented:

“It’s a remarkable achievement and we’re proud to play our part in helping Cancer Research UK prolong and save lives through the ground-breaking research that’s carried out here in Newcastle upon Tyne. Raising over £75,000 is a testament to the great teamwork and passion for winning that underpins our culture.”

Carolyn Reynolds from Cancer Research UK, said:

“Nigel Wright’s donations help to fund our research labs right here in Newcastle, where the charity invests over £4 million on a range of research projects to help us to beat cancer sooner. Staff at Nigel Wright can be really proud of this magnificent achievement – we are so grateful to them for their five incredible years of support.”
