The Biscuit Factory Celebrates 20 Years

Hailed as the largest independently owned commercial art gallery in the UK, The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle’s Ouseburn celebrates its 20th Anniversary this November.

For 20 years The Biscuit Factory has showcased the work of hundreds of independent artists, exhibiting thousands of pieces. From established artists whose careers span several decades, to new and emerging talent; the sheer scale of the space and the reputation of the gallery attracts creatives from all disciplines throughout the UK and beyond. Over the years this has made it a treasure trove of art, created by contemporary makers at the forefront of their fields. The exhibitions are carefully curated for buyers to find pieces they love for their homes, alongside more affordable gift options and extensive jewellery collections. .

This November the gallery celebrates with a weekend of activity focused on the art, and artists, that make The Biscuit Factory what it is.

On Friday 25 November the team will mark the milestone with their Winter Social and official 20th Anniversary celebration. The gallery opens from 7pm – 9pm with a new exhibition on display for the Winter including collections from ‘opening day’ artists alongside a headline showcase by emerging contemporary printmaker Ade Adesina.

General Manager Rachel Brown, said: “We’re very much looking forward to celebrating this exciting achievement with all the people who have been involved in The Biscuit Factory over the past twenty years. At the same time, we’re eager to keep looking ahead and to building new relationships with emerging artists and new visitors, so we hope people will take the opportunity to come and celebrate with us.”

A specially commissioned installation by local ceramic artist Megan Randall will also be unveiled at the social event. Comprising hundreds of individual ceramic forms featuring influences from the site’s history, and partially created by members of the public earlier this year, the permanent feature will be officially installed for the celebration.

Over the rest of the weekend the gallery combines it’s celebrations with the biannual Ouseburn Open Studios event; creatives located within The Biscuit Factory itself, and its sister studio buildings BBox and The Biscuit Tin, will open their studio doors to the public. Two of local artists will set up live ‘studios’ within the gallery itself demonstrating their crafts and giving visitors the opportunity to get involved too.
