Blue Reef Aquarium rebrands to be Tynemouth Aquarium

A new name for the North East’s Aquarium

For the past 25 years residents of the North East have marveled at fascinating underwater creatures at the Aquarium situated on Longsands beach in Tynemouth.

Thanks to financial investment, things are changing at Blue Reef Aquarium -including the aquarium’s name. Blue Reef Aquarium is now Tynemouth Aquarium and there is much more than a new name.

Changes to the interior and exterior of the building as well as construction of a new exhibit have helped modernise the aquarium.

Mark Sand from Tynemouth Aquarium said,

“We are unveiling our new name and branding to mark a change to the site. This summer we have upgraded the look of the building and its facilities as well as opening our new exciting exhibit: River Giants. Our aim has been to completely change our customers’ experience; we have added loads of interactive elements and some brand new talks and feeds to compliment the work improving the building.”

The new changes to the aquarium are ongoing, with work underway on a new sea view café. The café will be open to aquarium visitors and members of the public serving hot and cold drinks and food.

The aquarium remains fully open during the building of the new café and will be open throughout the winter months.
