North East gallery bolts into autumn season with new exhibition

The Biscuit Factory welcomes acclaimed printmaker, painter and sculptor Henrietta Corbett as its new headline artist this autumn with her bold compositions of animals and landscapes.

Henrietta’s new collection, showing at the Ouseburn art, craft and design gallery from 6 September, includes prints, sculptures and paintings depicting horses, lions, birds and abstract landscapes.

Having studied fine art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic under Anish Kapoor and Nicola Hicks, Leicestershire-based Henrietta has won numerous awards over the years, including Printmakers Printmaker from Printfest.

Alongside Henrietta’s collection, the gallery will also exhibit work from more than 200 local, national and international artists. New highlights this season include Newcastle-based photographer and artist Jill Tate whose work explores structure and perception; British landscape painter Deborah Grice with her depiction of mindful landscapes; and printmaker Sally Spens, whose etchings are inspired by the natural world.

Plus, Olivia Turner – winner of the gallery’s 2018 Open Contemporary Young Artist Award – showcases a new collection of work that plays with perspective, composition and structure.

The gallery also presents specially curated jewellery collection RHYTHM, inspired by pattern, repetition and movement.

Rachel Brown, General Manager of The Biscuit Factory, said: “This show particularly highlights, for me, the continued broadening of our gallery programming, as we introduce new collections that showcase more progressive artistic subject matter and more pieces that beautifully celebrate the duality of form and function. From Henrietta’s masterful mixed media show to our growing collections of textiles, furniture and homewares – we have a broad range of original and handcrafted pieces to suit a range of tastes and price points.”

The autumn exhibition launches with a special event on Friday 6 September, from 6pm, which is open to the public and free to attend. Guests can enjoy complimentary fizz on arrival, meet exhibiting artists and enjoy a host of creative pop ups on the night. The line-up also includes a ticketed ‘kitchen takeover’ from Papa Ganoush in the venue’s new social space, Artisan, and an after party with live music from 9pm until 11pm.
