Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI) is a destination and inward investment agency whose mission is to inspire people to visit, live, learn, work, and invest in Newcastle, Gateshead, and the wider region.
We exist to benefit local people, creating jobs, opportunities, and a great place to live for current and future generations. NGI champions key growth sectors on a global stage, maximising impact with the support of public and private sector partners.
We promote our region on a national and international level driving growth and attracting investment. We undertake a range of place promotion activities, for capital investment and the real estate sector.
We are also the VisitEngland recognised Local Visitor Economy Partnership for Newcastle and Gateshead and the lead accountable body for the first-ever Destination Development Partnership Pilot funded by the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS).
As a social enterprise, all projects are dedicated to making a lasting social and economic impact.
Destination North East England
The North East was chosen to deliver the first-ever Destination Development Partnership pilot in England, receiving £2.25 million from national government. Born out of the pilot, Destination North East England has been the catalyst for the development of a ten-year plan that will double the value of our regional visitor economy.
Destination North East England is led by NewcastleGateshead Initiative on behalf of the region, working with delivery partners Visit Northumberland and Visit County Durham and in partnership with all seven local authorities.
The Visitor Economy
We are a VisitEngland accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP). We were one of first organisations to be recognised by VisitEngland in this national portfolio of strategic tourism bodies who work in collaboration with local, regional and national stakeholders on shared priorities to support and grow the UK’s visitor economy.
We promote Newcastle and Gateshead’s visitor economy to national and international visitors. Creating demand for overnight visitors though delivery campaigns, content and media activity working VisitBritain, the private sector and industry to amplify activity in both domestic and international markets.
Investment and place promotion
We support domestic and global; businesses to locate, expand, and grow in Newcastle and Gateshead through a bespoke range of services. We promote Newcastle’s offer to potential investors across strategically important sectors, helping to grow our economy and to create jobs and opportunities for all.
Working with our public and private sector we undertake a range of place promotion activities to help secure capital investment on a regional level. Delivering national and international trade delegations and events including MIPIM and UK REiiF.
Meetings, conferences and events
We promote Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider region as a place to host major national and international conferences, meetings and events.
Our award-winning team offer a free service to conference organisers including, venue sourcing and accommodation booking, arranging transport and entertainment for delegates and supporting bid preparations.
We also offer the Business Events, Venue Finding and Hotel Booking service for business and major events in Newcastle and Gateshead recognised by the conference and events industry.
