Fenwick and Greggs Launch Bistro Greggs at Fenwick Newcastle

This December, family-owned department store Fenwick is collaborating with leading food-on-the-go retailer Greggs on a one-of-a-kind pop up at Fenwick Newcastle. This is set to be one of the hottest new restaurant openings this Christmas.

Launching on Friday 1st December, and running to New Year’s Eve, Bistro Greggs will be an all-day dining destination, from 9am to 8pm serving breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes from a Parisian-inspired space on the department store’s first floor. Guests will access through a pergola, a playful nod to the Greggs’ signature lattice pastry design. Available to book in advance, with tables set aside for walk-ins. Bistro Greggs will offer a fine dining experience, with dishes served under silver cloches by waiters in Bistro Greggs aprons and traditional white shirts and ties.

The brands, both founded in the North East, have a combined heritage of 225 years, are teaming up for the first time to open a French-style restaurant, Bistro Greggs. The restaurant will serve bespoke iterations of Greggs favourite menu items, paired with Fenwick Food Hall wines and a signature cocktail created by award winning bar, Mother Mercy at Fenwick Newcastle – The Pink Jammie Fizz inspired by Greggs’ hard to resist iconic Pink Jammie doughnut.

The indulgent menu, specially created by Fenwick Executive Head Chef, Mark Reid, in collaboration with Greggs, will see interpretations of their much-loved menu items enhanced through Fenwick culinary flair and gastronomic excellence. If you think you know the iconic Greggs Festive Bake? Think again. The lunch menu at Bistro Greggs sees it served a-la-carte with duck-fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts and sprouts, while a real Greggs favourite, the Steak Bake, is taken to new culinary heights by being accompanied by truffled dauphinoise potatoes, green beans and almonds.

For breakfast and brunch, highlights include the “Greggs Benedict” – a Greggs Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melt reimagined with smoked ham, poached Cacklebean eggs and a velvety Hollandaise sauce. A Full English celebrates Greggs’ best-selling Sausage Roll alongside bacon, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and a choice of eggs. The dish also comes as a vegetarian and vegan option.

Bistro Greggs will also serve “High Tea” for two, where guests can enjoy a three-tier sharing brunch with Peach Melba, Yum Yum Bites paired with chocolate sauce and banana, alongside a Greggs Croissant, Pain au Chocolat and an iconic Sausage Roll and Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt.

A selection of sweet treats includes a Greggs Yum Yum with caramel sauce and macadamia brittle and “Tea and Cake” which presents a Greggs Christmas Cake Slice paired with an Earl Grey Créme Brûlée.

The Bistro Greggs pop-up restaurant draws design inspiration from the traditional bistros of Saint-Germain and features white-clothed tables, velvet banquette seating and marble countertops. A colour palette of Greggs instantly recognisable blue and Fenwick’s signature green is accented with white and brass to nod to each brand’s look and feel. The space takes further cues from Parisian courtyards and gardens with large- potted greenery and custom artwork which is elegantly woven into Fenwick’s festive dressing that runs throughout to complete the aesthetic.

But it’s not the first time that these two much-loved, North East brands have been pictured together at Christmas; for over 50 years Fenwick has brought the Newcastle community together through its iconic Christmas window on Northumberland Street. Back in 2018, Greggs cheekily reflected their logo onto the iconic Fenwick window, opposite Greggs’ Northumberland Street shop, creating a huge reaction and buzz for both brands across social media.

Leo Fenwick, Strategic Partnerships Director at Fenwick said:

“Fenwick and Greggs are two brands at the heart of the local community with a commitment to doing good and we are thrilled to be partnering with a much-loved brand, bringing a unique and delicious twist to the everyday Greggs experience at Fenwick.”

Hannah Squirrell, Customer Director at Greggs said:

“The launch of Bistro Greggs marks a watershed moment as we take our first step with Fenwick into classic French-inspired fine dining. Showcasing popular favourites across our menu, we’ve created an accessible menu featuring eloquent dishes with a modern twist, elevated through Fenwick’s gastronomic excellence and expertise.”

Bistro Greggs will be open daily Monday to Saturday at 9am – 8pm (last orders by 6:30pm), Sundays 10:30am – 5pm (last orders by 3:30pm) at Fenwick Newcastle, First Floor, 39 Northumberland St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7AS.
