Public nominations open for We Are Newcastle Awards 2026
1st April 2026
People across Newcastle are being invited to recognise those who make a real difference in their communities as nominations open for Newcastle City Council’s We Are Newcastle Public Award 2026.
Now in their fifth year, the We Are Newcastle Awards celebrate the outstanding contribution of council employees who go above and beyond every day, often without recognition. The awards also provide an opportunity for colleagues to celebrate each other and the positive impact their work has across the city.
This year, the awards will also incorporate the Apprenticeship Awards, bringing everything together into one event and shining an even brighter spotlight on the dedication, talent and achievements of staff across the organisation.
The Public Award is arguably one of the most coveted categories, giving residents, businesses and communities the chance to recognise local heroes. This could be someone who helps keep neighbourhoods clean and safe, supports vulnerable residents, brightens people’s day, or simply goes the extra mile in their role.
Pam Smith, Chief Executive of Newcastle City Council, said: “The We Are Newcastle Awards are one of the highlights of my year as they give us the chance to celebrate some of the incredible work by our colleagues, often behind the scenes.
“The Public Award is particularly special because it gives people across Newcastle a voice. It’s an opportunity for anyone who lives in, works in, or benefits from council services to recognise individuals or teams who have made a real difference to them.
“Our colleagues are deeply committed to supporting communities and improving lives. These awards are a meaningful way to say thank you and to shine a light on the impact they make across our city every single day.”
Whether you’ve experienced exceptional service, seen someone make a difference in your neighbourhood, or know a team delivering vital support in your community, this is your opportunity to say thank you and ensure their efforts are recognised.
Nominations are open now and will close on Friday 17 April 2026, and can be made online at – www.newcastle.gov.uk/colleagueawardspublic
