Fraser Anderson appointed permanent Chief Executive of The Glasshouse
9th April 2026
The Glasshouse International Centre for Music has appointed Fraser Anderson as its new Chief Executive with immediate effect, following a comprehensive and highly competitive recruitment process.
Fraser has served as Interim Chief Executive for the last six months, following Abigail Pogson‘s departure to the Barbican Centre in London.
Fraser brings over six years of experience within the organisation, where he has played a central role in shaping The Glasshouse’s strategic direction, strengthening its programmes, and growing its impact with audiences and communities across the North East.
Andy Haldane, Chair of The Glasshouse, said: “Fraser has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his time as Interim CEO. He combines a deep understanding of The Glasshouse with a clear vision for its future, and the panel was unanimous in its decision to appoint him permanently. At a time of significant opportunity for the region, Fraser is well placed to ensure The Glasshouse continues to play a leading role.”
Commenting on his appointment, Fraser Anderson said: “It’s a privilege to be appointed Chief Executive of The Glasshouse. This is an organisation with a rare sense of shared purpose – artists, audiences and our brilliant team have created a place for music that combines creative excellence with a strong sense of community and belonging.
We’ve built momentum in recent years but there’s much more to come. We are already making next-phase plans to work with artists on live events, festivals and residencies. A growing Music Academy is expanding what we can offer young people, emerging artists and aspiring music professionals. And our commitment to making what we do available to as many different people as possible is unwavering.
The North East of England is a place of creativity, resilience and generosity. It’s one of the most culturally vibrant places in the country and I’m hugely optimistic about what we can build in the next decade.”
Fraser’s appointment comes as The Glasshouse builds on the momentum of its 21st anniversary and looks ahead to its next chapter. Its programme continues to span classical, contemporary, folk, jazz and popular music, bringing together international artists and homegrown talent, alongside festivals, Artistic Partners and new commissions.
Alongside this, the organisation continues to grow audiences, expand opportunities for young people to make music and create clearer pathways from first access to professional stages. It is also investing in its building and exploring new ways to use its spaces, while continuing to grow its conferences and events. Together, this work reinforces its role as both a cultural destination and a place where music lives and grows every day.
