Explore the darkest skies in England with family stargazing at High Force Waterfall
24th October 2025
Raby Estate’s High Force Waterfall, one of the UK’s best dark sky locations due to its remote setting in the North Pennines National Landscape, has created a family stargazing experience for the October half term.
Available on two dates, Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October and coinciding with the half term holidays, this new experience has been designed especially for younger explorers and curious minds for a family-friendly journey through the stars.
Families will be taken on an evening walk to High Force Waterfall, one of the north’s highest waterfalls which will be dramatically illuminated, and experience an interactive event which brings space to life with fun demonstrations, storytelling, and guided night-sky viewing.
Led by expert stargazing hosts, adults and children can learn how to spot stars, constellations and planets and enjoy engaging science to spark young imaginations.
Andrew Lindsey, General Manager at High Force Hotel and Waterfall said: “This family-friendly offering provides a half-term adventure with a difference, following the immensely popular Stargazing Suppers at High Force Hotel and Waterfall.
“It’s perfect for families who are stargazing for the first time, or those who have star-spotting experience, combining nature and science in an engaging yet educational way within a truly magical setting. Spaces are limited and we have a feeling this will get booked up quickly, so I’d encourage everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible.”
Families are welcome to visit High Force Hotel, which is adjacent to one of the UK’s most magnificent waterfalls, for a pre-stargazing meal or a post night-sky exploration hot chocolate.
For a daytime experience in the October half term, there will be an autumnal adventure trail at High Force Waterfall through the golden woodland, where little explorers will need to collect hidden letters to solve a seasonal riddle. This activity is included in the admission price, with a Waterfall family saver ticket for two adults and two children available for £10 when booked online.
Sessions for the family stargazing experience will take place at 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October and the event is recommended for children aged five and over.
Tickets are £15 per person and can be purchased via the following link: www.raby.co.uk/events/family-stargazing-at-high-force/
