Alnwick Castle will reopen its doors for the 2026 visitor season on 27 March, welcoming guests back with a host of new experiences, including an immersive exhibition and expanded access to its historic kitchens.

Marking the start of the season, children from St Bede’s Primary School in Bedlington will be the first to pass through the Castle’s iconic barbican. They will be greeted by a traditional Northumbrian piper and expert tour guides in full historical costume, continuing a much-loved opening tradition.

Following the successful public debut of the Victorian kitchens last year, visitors in 2026 will enjoy even greater access. Newly opened areas include the Cook’s Room and the butchery, revealed as part of an ambitious four-year restoration project that brings the Castle’s working past to life.

This season also sees the launch of a major new exhibition, “The Shot Heard Round the World,” commemorating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Drawing on original maps and archival documents, the exhibition explores the story of Earl Percy and his role in the American Revolutionary War, brought to life through a striking new animation.

Adventure Cinema returns to the Castle grounds after a sell-out run in 2025. This year’s programme features a diverse lineup, including screenings such as Andrea Bocelli, Dirty Dancing, Queen, Wicked Sing-A-Long, and Star Wars: A New Hope, offering unforgettable outdoor entertainment in a historic setting.

Throughout the 2026 season, visitors can also enjoy a wide range of events and castle favourites, including music, falconry displays, jester performances, and engaging book talks. Special activities and displays will take place during the Easter holidays, ensuring there is something for all ages.
