INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle and Baltic Continue Art Partnership with New Exhibition by Zoë Cotterill
12th March 2026
Following the success of its initial art collaboration, INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle, part of Meliá Hotels International, has announced the next phase of its ongoing partnership with the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
From Monday 9th March, the hotel’s gallery space will showcase a fresh installation by Zoë Cotterill, a Newcastle-based illustrator whose architectural watercolour works celebrate the character, heritage and everyday charm of the North East. Known for her delicate line work and refined use of watercolour, Cotterill captures familiar streets, buildings and local businesses, transforming recognisable places into thoughtful, nostalgic artworks.
This year-round partnership between INNSiDE by Meliá Newcastle and Baltic continues to transform the hotel’s public areas into a curated cultural experience, allowing guests and visitors to encounter contemporary art within a dynamic hospitality setting. Cotterill becomes the latest artist to be featured as part of the collaboration, following previous exhibitions by Sofia Barton, Jimmy Turrell and Ben Holland.
Originally from Hull, Zoë Cotterill moved to Newcastle to study and quickly fell in love with the city. Since launching her illustration practice in 2018, her work has evolved from black-and-white ink drawings to her signature watercolour and ink style. Her illustrations focus on the architecture and independent businesses that shape the region’s identity, drawing inspiration from the stories and memories connected to each place.
Cotterill’s work often resonates deeply with audiences, featuring pubs, cafés and neighbourhood landmarks that hold personal meaning for viewers. Alongside her independent practice, she regularly sells her work at local markets, where she enjoys meeting customers and hearing the stories behind the places she has illustrated.
At INNSiDE Newcastle, each stay is enriched with art, lifestyle and wellness curated by the hotel’s local experts and is in keeping with INNSiDE by Melia’s philosophy ‘Stay Curious’, which promises discovery and locally inspired experiences with every stay. All artworks in the exhibition on the hotel’s first floor will be available to purchase via Baltic Shop, offering art lovers a chance to take home a piece of the region’s creativity.
In 2026, INNSiDE Newcastle celebrates five years in the city. Located on the city’s historic Quayside, the hotel features 161 rooms, a vibrant Open Living Lounge, and Gino D’Acampo Quayside, the hotel’s restaurant, bar, and outdoor terrace with views across the River Tyne.
The new exhibition by Zoë Cotterill will be on display at INNSiDE Newcastle from Monday 9th March. Further artist collaborations will be announced throughout the year.
