Two local hotel staff celebrate milestone birthdays

Two members of hotel staff in Middleton-in-Teesdale have recently celebrated their 80th birthdays within a day of each other.
Mick Carr, one of High Force Hotel’s welcome hosts and a stargazing guide at nearby High Force Waterfall, and Derek Bonnett, who has been working at the hotel for 31 years, both commemorated their milestone birthdays on Saturday 31st January and Sunday 1st February respectively.
Andrew Lindsey, general manager at High Force Hotel said: “Mick brings an incredible depth of experience to the role, having previously worked as a geography teacher across the North of England and has been an influential figure for the local community too. His knowledge, storytelling and natural warmth make him a huge asset to the team and a favourite with our guests.
“Derek has been welcoming visitors and helping ensure that the routes and paths around the waterfall remain safe, well maintained and accessible for over 30 years. His friendly manner and dedication play an important role in shaping the positive experience visitors have when they arrive.
“On behalf of the team at High Force, we would like to thank them both for their continued service, commitment and enthusiasm. We are extremely proud to have them as part of the team.”
High Force Hotel is currently running a winter offer including a 20% discount on Bed and Breakfast or Dinner, Bed and Breakfast stays, available Tuesdays to Thursdays until 31st March 2026.
At High Force Waterfall, families can explore all things astronomy during the February half term with a new space adventure trail, whilst visiting the natural phenomenon renowned for some of the darkest skies in the country. The popular Stargazing Suppers also return to High Force Hotel and Waterfall next month from Sunday 15th March.
