River Island officially reopens its stores

River Island has officially reopened its doors at Eldon Square, unveiling a completely redesigned, two-floor concept store on St Andrew’s Way. Spanning 20,000 sq ft, the refreshed flagship store brings an elevated, digital-first retail experience to the heart of Newcastle, further cementing Eldon Square as a destination for next-generation shopping.

Marking its return with energy and style, River Island hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday 9 August, followed by a weekend of exclusive launch activity. The first 200 customers each day received complimentary barista coffees and a 20% discount on purchases over £40 –  a gesture that brought crowds and excitement across the centre.

The new store features interactive fitting rooms with digital screens, curated collections, and immersive tech aimed at redefining the in-store experience. With this major reinvestment, River Island signals its commitment to Newcastle’s growing reputation as a retail and cultural hotspot.
