Tyne Theatre & Opera House announces new community choir and series of creative workshops
21st July 2025

The Tyne Theatre & Opera House has announced a new community choir that will be launching in September 2025, plus a series of creative workshops and community events.
Tyne Theatre Voices (TTV) is an accessible adult community choir, open to all abilities. With an aim of “bringing the joy of singing to all”, the choir will explore a varied repertoire of classical and contemporary songs. TTV members will have the opportunity to perform these songs on the historic Tyne Theatre & Opera House stage as part of an annual Gala concert in the Summer. There will also be performance opportunities throughout the year, both at the theatre and across the city.
If you’re interested in getting involved, the weekly Tyne Theatre Voices sessions will take place on Monday evenings at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House on Westgate Road, starting on Monday 8th September 2025. There are no auditions needed to join, and information regarding a free trial session will be sent out to those interested ahead in August. You can request and information pack, including information on how to register, by emailing ttv@ttoh.uk
Head of Community Engagement & Participation, Rachel Snape, said: “Tyne Theatre Voices is just one way we’re expanding our offering at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House – giving people from all backgrounds, ages and with varying interests the chance to engage with arts, culture and heritage at our historic venue. The theatre has had a rich history of operating as a ‘theatre for the people’, and we’re working to ensure that there’s something everyone can get involved with!”
Alongside the choir, Tyne Theatre & Opera House has also recently announced a series of community events and creative workshops starting this summer. These include a free Knit & Natter group, in partnership with Search Newcastle, and free Tyne Tabletop Board Game Club.
The creative workshops will offer plenty for kids during the school holidays and include sessions on animation, mask making, cookie decorating and more! There’s also a handcrafted chocolate workshop available for adults looking to learn a new skill. All creative workshops are ticketed on an individual basis and can be booked on the Tyne Theatre & Opera House website.
In addition to these activities, the theatre has also recently re-opened membership for their youth theatre company where ages 7-17 can develop skills in acting, dancing and singing. With more community events and creative workshops still to be announced, keep an eye on the theatre’s website, Facebook and Instagram pages to be the first to see what’s coming soon!
