Pint-sized players team up with Scalini’s

One of Newcastle’s most popular restaurants has scored a footballing hat-trick – kitting out junior players for the third time running.

This is the third season in which Scalini’s, which has branches at Jesmond and Gosforth, has supported the Under 9 Heaton Hawks FC team.

And when the pint-sized players, who play on a Saturday morning in the Killingworth Young Peoples’ Club League, take to the pitch it will be in a brand-new strip bearing the company logo.

Scalini’s is owned by Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc, whose accounts manager Paul Wright coaches the team alongside Richie Martin.

Both coaches have been involved with the club for 10 years and train the under 9 Hawks at Manor Park Sports Ground and Heaton Manor School.

“The Malhotra family has always been very supportive,” said Paul. “Over the years they have donated countless prizes for the club Christmas raffles, including overnight stays at their hotels and meals at their pubs and restaurants.

“The club is a registered charity and an FA Charter Standard Community Club with 400 members and teams for all age groups and these raffles are vitally important to its survival.”

Atul Malhotra, operations director at Malhotra Group plc, said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to support the Heaton Hawks.

I’m a huge football fan and this sort of grassroots sport is essential in bringing on the footballing stars of the future.”
