Pilgrim Place secures planning approval

Newcastle City Council’s Planning Committee has granted planning permission for the Pilgrim Place development at Pilgrim Street.

The Taras Properties scheme is located on the eastern side of Pilgrim Street and includes the site of the former NCP car park and Worswick Street bus station and the listed buildings of Worswick Chambers and 93-101 Pilgrim Street.

The site occupies a prominent city centre gateway site on one of Newcastle’s most important historic streets. It offers an exciting opportunity to create a landmark scheme for the city. The scheme includes: a large new public square within the centre of the site; alterations and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Worswick Chambers and 93 – 101 Pilgrim Street for retail, food and beverage and leisure uses; two new office buildings, one 12-storey and the other 10-storey (referred to as 1 and 2 Pilgrim Place respectively), providing 350,000sq. ft of Grade A office accommodation; a ‘pavilion’ building for food and beverage or leisure uses; and a two storey car park and service area at basement levels of the office buildings to provide 221 car parking spaces.

Taras Properties, which owns the entire site, has worked up the development proposals with Newcastle City Council. Pilgrim Place is adjacent to Taras Properties 14 storey Bank House building which is currently under construction which when completed will provide 120,000sq.ft. of Grade A office space.
