North P&I Club named ‘legal department of the year’ at Northern Law Awards

North P&I Club’s in-house Corporate & Legal Team has been named ‘Legal Department of the Year’ at the recent Northern Law Awards. The award recognises their outstanding work in delivering a solution to ensure that all business divisions within the North Group can continue to successfully operate in a post-Brexit landscape. The complex legal solution was delivered on time and within budget across multiple jurisdictions.

The team were also recognised for taking a leading role in their industry – resulting in North being the first P&I Club in the maritime industry to announce and implement their post-Brexit trading arrangements.

Chris Owen, North P&I Club’s General Counsel, said, “This award is testament to the unique multi-disciplinary nature of the team which incorporates legal, project management and corporate governance expertise, and our collaboration with colleagues and functions across the business.”

The Northern Law Awards celebrate the great wealth of legal talent for those practising and working in the legal industry in the North of England. Chris Owen attended the awards dinner, held on 6 June 2019 at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead, with members of his team: Michael Easom (Project Manager), Ged McTernan (Corporate Counsel), Mathew McGeary (Assistant Company Secretary) and Mari Watson (Executive – Corporate & Legal).
