CBK Adventures announces Autumn/Winter paddling programme

Coming off the back of a bumper summer, CBK Adventures has just announced its programme of activities for the Autumn/Winter season.

The award-winning kayak and SUP school is encouraging people to ‘chill out’ on the water in the lead up to the busy festive period and beyond.

Experiences available include a new wild cooking expedition. The ‘SUP Cook Out’ combines a scenic inland paddle boarding tour with an opportunity to prepare locally sourced ingredients over an open flame at the water’s edge.

The ever popular ‘Glow Tours’ on the River Tyne are also returning to the calendar with a new twist. Participants will now be treated to a complimentary drink at the INNSiDE by Melia, before enjoying a spectacular urban light show from an illuminated kayak. In the year that the Millennium Bridge celebrated its 20th anniversary, the early evening tours offer an opportunity to see some of the city’s most famous landmarks from a whole new angle.

Dave Calvert, Director of Operations at CBK Adventures, said: ”Living at 55 degrees north means we’re always going to be faced with colder weather conditions from October through to March. However, this doesn’t mean that people need to retreat indoors, as with the right kit and right preparation you can still enjoy spending time on the water.

“The experiences that form part of the ‘Chill Out’ campaign are also designed to be social, as we know that this time of year can lead to people feeling low in mood. Spending time together in and around blue spaces has been scientifically proven to improve mental wellbeing.”

Safety on the water is another key message that CBK Adventures is continuing to drive home. The school will be delivering a series of training courses over the coming months to help paddlers gain new skills. These courses are accredited by the Water Skills Academy and British Canoeing, and they are recognised internationally.

Calvert added: “We have seen a boom in people buying their own equipment over the last 18 months. The quieter winter season is the perfect time to hone your skills on the water and gain the confidence to start exploring places that may be a little further afield.”
