A Wedding Story from Durham Castle

Durham Castle offers a spectacular venue for wedding receptions, as well as being licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships.

On Sunday 6th August 2017, the Castle was the venue for the wedding reception of Kim and Glen Collins. They share their story below on how they personalised their wedding day.

“We are both Durham Alumni; I was at St Mary’s and Glen was at St Cuthbert’s. We met at a Revolver night at the DSU when I was in my first year. The theme for our wedding was maths and literature; we are both teachers (I teach English and Glen teaches maths), and the table names were our favourite authors and mathematicians side by side. We made all of the favours (bookmarks with quotes from some of my favourite books) and flowers. The flowers were handmade paper roses, each rose was a page from one of my favourite novels. The absolute star of the theme was our cake, though. Made by Glen’s incredibly talented Aunt Jackie, it featured everything from the Durham University Prospectus, to Glen’s doctoral thesis! Durham is such a special place to both of us, and our friends and families, too. My brother and his partner (my maid of honour) are both Durham alumni too, and the majority of our friends are from our Durham days. It was a perfect venue to gather with our loved ones; a place that is so special to so many. Thank you again to everyone!”
