Sunderland Empire set to strut into new season!

Everybody say YEAH! Sunderland Empire’s glittering new What’s On Guide is out, showcasing a fabulous array of April – July productions, alongside an exciting preview into autumn.

80’s vibes are set to live forever as the sensation that is Fame the Musical returns as part of its 30th anniversary tour next week (8-13 April) and check in to Club Tropicana (20-25 May) for the brand new 80s musical from the producers of Hairspray, with an all-star cast including North East’s Joe McElderry.

Come join the tribe and relive the summer of love when legendary rock musical HAIR (6-11 May) bursts on stage in full psychedelic glory, direct from a sell-out London run. Adored for its Grammy award-winning score featuring iconic hits such as Aquarius, Let the Sun Shine In, I Got Life and Good Morning Starshine, experience the intoxicating power of Hair and celebrate its affirmation of life, freedom and equality.

Relive the golden age of musicals with the glorious, romantic musical The King and I (5-15 June), with one of the finest scores ever written including; Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, and Shall We Dance, featuring a company of over 50 world-class performers and a full-scale orchestra. Strut into summer with the high-heeled hit Kinky Boots (25 June – 6 July), inspired by true events, this joyous story of Brit grit to high-heeled hit with songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, takes you from the factory floor to the glamorous catwalks of Milan.

Looking further ahead get ready for Rock Gods and power ballads with Strictly star Kevin Clifton and rock on with the biggest party in the city (23 – 27 July) when Rock of Ages hits the stage. The world’s best-loved musical Grease is back (30 July – 3 August). Prolong those summer nights with this brand-new production, grittier and more glamorous than ever before, with special guest artist, Peter Andre as Teen Angel.

Following sold out productions in London, on Broadway, North America, Melbourne and Sydney, The Book Of Mormon (from Wednesday 28 August, for a limited engagement) has become a worldwide sensation. This outrageous musical comedy from creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Bobby Lopez co-writer of Avenue Q and Frozen, follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent on a mission to a place that’s about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get.

The rhythm is gonna get you, when On Your Feet, the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan hits the stage, 30 September – 5 October, you can bet your bottom dollar that tickets to Annie (7-12 October) will be popular and be sure to tumble outta’ bed and stumble to Dolly Parton’s rip-roaring musical, 9 to 5 The Musical (5-9 November).
