The North East exhibition for future engineers

Sunderland Rotary Club, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, STEMNET and Engineering UK
are working together to hold an Exhibition to showcase North East Engineering to local young people, throughout the region, with the objectives of:

  • Educating them about the engineering activities taking place in the North East
  • Inspiring them to want to be part of it
  • Informing them about what they need to do to become so

The Exhibition will contribute to improving employment prospects and closing the skills gap.
It will be held over two days, one devoted to primary schools and the other to secondary schools.

The audience will be young people from 10-14 with the objective of influencing them before they commit to GCSE Options.

The event will be a celebration and exhibition of engineering prowess in the North East of England and not a ‘career fair’. Engineering companies will be invited to showcase their local activities and products, provide young engineers to talk about what they do and provide basic information about their activities to take away.

We want as many items of hardware at the exhibition as possible to inspire young people to ‘want to be part of that’.

We expect at least 2,500 young people, about 100 schools and around 50 engineering companies to attend (www.bringitonne.co.uk).

The two days will feature:

  •  A plenary session with a presentation on what engineering is and a keynote speech from inspirational local individuals who have made a successful career in engineering
  •  An Engineering Exhibition by engineering companies, showcasing their products and activities in the NE. This will include as much hardware and excitement as possible, a single sheet handout describing in terms accessible to the age range, their products or activities, what they do and what engineers they employ together with young engineers to talk to pupils.
  •  An ‘How to become an Engineer’ area, run by the professional engineering institutions, with information about pay, job and life opportunities, types of engineers, important school subjects and the various routes into engineering.

All pupils will go away with an information pack describing what engineering is and how to become part  of it, as well as the single sheet handouts from the exhibitors, all tailored to their age range.
The exhibition will be on October 3rd and 4th 2017 at the Stadium of Light, home of Sunderland  Football Club.

The event will be totally non profitmaking and neither schools or companies will be charged to attend.
