Loaded and ready at Newcastle’s Antler

LOADED AND READY AT NEWCASTLE’S ANTLER…

TYNESIDE’S only Alpine-themed bar is getting loaded this autumn with an exciting new addition to the menu.

Antler, at Newcastle’s 55 Degrees, is now serving loaded fries with a choice of more than 20 different toppings which are already proving to be a huge hit with customers.

The bar serves a range of Alpine-themed food with a choice of dishes such as bratwursts, classic schnitzels and goulash, along with a choice of stone-baked pizzas and a children’s menu.

It has also recently launched its Burger Haus selection, which includes exciting variations on an old classic such as chicken schnitzel, sloppy Joe and goats cheese burgers.

But in recent weeks visitors have been flocking in to sample its new range of fries with toppings.

Diners can choose either skin-on or sweet potato fries or opt for thick cut chips and then pick from 24 different toppings priced at just 50p each.

These include meats like breadcrumb chicken, beef chilli, crispy chicken wings and sliced German sausage, along with a choice of Cheddar, Swiss, or feta cheese.

There are also several different sauces to choose from, including sour cream, currywurst ketchup, BBQ and béchamel along with extras such as jalapenos, chopped red onion or sesame seeds.

“Our loaded fries are becoming one of the most popular dishes on the menu, which I believe is due to the huge choice of toppings we have,”  said Gary Hutchinson, owner of Chrysalis Leisure which owns Antler.

“It’s one of those dishes which you can enjoy as a meal in itself, share with friends or add as a side and because diners can choose from so many different types of filling, we’ve got something for everyone.

“Chips and fries are no longer just something stuck on the side of a plate as part of a side, they’ve become the star of their own show and we are seeing a lot of people coming in and mixing and matching various toppings.”

Antler is open seven days a week with food served from noon daily. It is also one of the go-to places in the city centre for live sports action, regularly showing Premier League, Champions League, NFL, boxing and more.

Antler’s sister restaurant Buddha, is located upstairs on the first floor offering Asian fusion dishes.
