App launched for European Rugby Finals weekend

A new app has been launched to help tens of thousands of rugby fans heading to Newcastle for the European Rugby Finals.

The Newcastle 2019 app has been specially designed to improve fan experience and will provide practical information about the city, fan activations and St James’ Park.

Taking place over the weekend of 10-11 May 2019, Newcastle is hosting European rugby’s biggest weekend, with the Challenge Cup Final on Friday night and Heineken Champions Cup Final on Saturday afternoon both being held at St James’ Park.

Fans will be able to use the app to get information and timetables on fan activations throughout the city. As well as the Champions Rugby Village on the Quayside and Baltic Square, fans can enjoy a local food and craft market at Blackett Street and a Spectator Plaza at Strawberry Place and St James’ Park metro car park.

During, and in the run up to, the finals weekend fans will also be able to find out more about Newcastle and the wider region, helping them to plan their visit and enjoy other sights and activities.

Mick Hogan, Newcastle 2019 event director, said: “Tens of thousands of fans will be heading to the city for the weekend and the Newcastle 2019 app will help them make the most of everything that is happening throughout the city and region. There’s no doubt that Newcastle will offer a world-class experience of visitors thanks to the location of St James’ Park right in the city centre and the range of fan activations, and the app will further enhance this.”

The app is free to download and is available on both Android and iOS.

Newcastle-based software development company Shout Digital was chosen to create the Newcastle 2019 app.
