Auckland Castle Trust and Eleven Arches help expansion of local security company

County Durham company, approaching its 19th anniversary, is now expanding its workforce after landing its biggest contracts to date.

Vinovium Associates, based in Bishop Auckland, has been hired by both Auckland Castle Trust and its sister charity, Eleven Arches, leading to the creation of jobs for 10 local people who were previously unemployed.

The full-time posts, which include guarding Auckland Castle and the site of the open-air live show ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’, have been awarded to SIA trained candidates from Bishop Auckland, Shildon and Willington, with the possibility of more jobs being created soon.

Vinovium Associates, based at South Church Enterprise Park, was established by former police officer, Jim Loughran, in 1998.  It currently employs 40 staff and holds security contracts across nine sites in County Durham, including Spennymoor, Shildon and Tow Law.

The company, which includes dedicated surveillance, investigation and forensic teams, is one of a number of contractors, based in and around Bishop Auckland, who are currently involved in the ambitious plans to develop a world class arts, culture and heritage destination, creating new opportunities and ultimately revitalise the former market town.

The restoration of Auckland Castle, which is due for completion in 2018, is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Sir James Knott Trust, The Charles Hayward Foundation, The Headley Trust, The Linbury Trust, The Rothschild Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust and the Overstone Fund.

It forms part of a wider redevelopment project, which includes the creation of a Mining Art Gallery, Spanish Gallery, Walled Garden and restaurant, Faith Museum and Welcome Building in Bishop Auckland Market Place.

Combined with Kynren, the spectacular live show produced by Eleven Arches, which attracted more than 100,000 visitors in its first season in 2016, it is hoped that this will draw more than 430,000 visitors to Bishop Auckland from 2020, contributing more than £4m per year to the local economy.
